Heidi

As part of our renovations here at the Hatrack, we stumbled across several turtles, one of which ended up as a gift to Joey.  He was quite thrilled with this, and went to go “check on it” to make sure it still had water, see if it was eating, etc. about every two minutes for … Continue reading »

Hunting

…and speaking of hunting monsters, we took Joey hunting for Pokémon on the OU campus this afternoon.  Our first find of the day was something he’d never encountered before, and apparently something quite rare and special (don’t ask us what it was; we have no idea!) that got him all excited.  It was a pleasant … Continue reading »

Cookies, Revisited

It being Teacher Appreciation Week at Joey’s school, we spent the evening making cookies.  We of course made molasses crinkles (“ginger cookies” to the uninitiated), trying both the Grandma’s Molasses recipe amount of ginger, and our modified version.  It was unanimously agreed that our version was superior (also, we use butter instead of shortening, because … Continue reading »

Everybody went … Continue reading »

There Are Typos, And There Are Typos

Dave: I bought Joey a little plush elk when I was in Wyoming just before he was born. He’s playing with it, and I had to explain the difference between “ears” and “antlers.” He had lots of fun pointing to each and saying “ears and antlers, ears and antlers.” …which then inexplicably morphed into “Aunt … Continue reading »

It Makes Perfect Sense, Really…

We were looking through the freezer and happened to see a bottle of ketchup.  Sez we: “what’s that doing in there?”  Seems rather an odd place to keep ketchup.  Then it hit us: it’s right next to the tater tots! Yes, the five-year-old has been in the kitchen, and his thought process is apparently contagious.

Cooking With Joey

We made molasses crinkles with the five-year-old last weekend.  We basically followed the recipe, but with the following changes: Step 5.5: notice that the dough is very dry.  Realize you forgot the ginger.  (How in the world did you forget ginger?!?)  Grate it quickly and add it to the bowl.  Ah, much better. Step 6: … Continue reading »
