Comfort

On a cold winter’s day, there are some things that just bring comfort.  A piping-hot bowl of hearty stew, a comfortable chair with a dog on the ottoman at one’s feet, a warm favourite sweater…. Life is good.

Irony

When the Star Trek parody series turns out to be a better Star Trek than the new Star Trek series. Plus, it’s free on broadcast.  Suck it, CBS.  You’ve never known a good thing when you had it. (Yes, we know, FOX was your understudy.  Firefly proves their credentials on that point.)

And Then, All at Once…

…it was autumn. This time last week, it was high 80’s/low 90’s.  Since Tuesday, we haven’t broken 65, with lows in the 50’s.  It’s almost as though somebody whispered to the weather gods “hey, the solstice was on Friday,” and they suddenly got their act together. We approve entirely.  The windows are open, Charlie Parker … Continue reading »

Cameos

We don’t typically watch NCIS: New Orleans, but happened to turn it on tonight.  At the end of the show, when Pride reopened his bar, we heard a familiar song coming from the stage: “I Will Play for Gumbo.”  The performer had an oddly familiar look to him, but we couldn’t quite place him.  A bit … Continue reading »

Season Opener

Eighteen years in Norman–this time around–more than a dozen football games attended (including one in College Station against A&M, and a few in the Santee Lounge), and more than a few basketball games…and we’ve never once paid for a ticket. Truly, we have good friends. See you tomorrow evening!

Prestige

As a followup to last night’s post, we finally acted upon the recommendation of a dear friend and watched The Prestige.  The recommendation was a good one, and we recommend it in turn.  Very well done. We’ve always enjoyed Michael Caine; Dirty Rotten Scoundrels is a particular favourite.

Magic

Penn & Teller: Fool Us, notably Kayla Drescher, was especially poignant tonight.  Those with even a passing interest in stage magic should be watching this show.
